Angry Birds Rio, a combination of what's surely the most popular mobile game of all time with an upcoming Hollywood animated feature, is said to be hitting "app stores everywhere" in March 2011, just in time to play on your Motorola Xoom. Based on the game trailer (you can see it after the break) it looks like our feathered friends have made their way to Brazil, and have some sort of wildlife exploiting Cockatoo to battle it out with this go 'round. Not much to go on, other than 20th Century Fox backing the project and tie-ins with their new animated feature Rio due in April 2011. We'll know more in six weeks or so.
In the meantime, watch the trailer and speculate like the rest of us! [@RovioMobile]

Facebook, which now has 125 million active iPhone and Android users, will set its focus on the mobile part of its platform this year. CTO Bret Taylor, speaking at the Inside Social Apps conference, said that emphasis will be on HTML5-powered solutions, to maximize impact across all of the smartphone platforms. Both iOS and Android have Web browsers capable of HTML5. The BlackBerry browser supports some HTML5, and Nokia/Symbian should really have an HTML5-capable browser sometime in 2011. The advantages of developing an HTML5-powered mobile site are clear: not only is there at least 125 million users just waiting to enjoy interactive HTML5 content on their phones, but it would also mean that Facebook could spend its time creating a standards-compliant and cross-platform mobile website, rather than developing individual apps for each of the smartphone platforms. Don't forget the developers, either: imagine writing an HTML5 app or game that works across every smartphone. It would bring a whole new level of immersion to FarmVille and CityVille players -- you could play it on the train, in the bathroom, or in bed!Facebook to empower its massive mobile platform with HTML5 originally appeared on Download Squad on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 06:00:00 EST. Everything just changed in the angel investing world. Two years ago Yuri Milner, through his investment firm DST, disrupted the traditional Silicon Valley venture capital model when he began investing in the hottest startups - companies like Facebook, Zynga and Groupon - at very high valuations and extremely easy deal terms. He looks brilliant in hindsight, with all of his U.S. investments at significantly higher valuations since he invested. Most top VC firms have begun emulating DST's deal structure. Now he's partnering (as an individual, not as part of DST) with Ron Conway's angel fund, SV Angel. And they're making a bold investment move. This evening they've just made a blanket investment offer to every Y Combinator startup in the most recent batch. They're going to invest in all of them. Every single one. And this is the biggest Y Combinator class to date - some 40 new startups.Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Techcrunch/~3/7lIru3MWqfI/
