Download every Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model photo from 1996 to 2011

If you're into buxom bikini-clad babes, the same ingenious script kiddie behind the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2010 and 2011 Perl script downloaders has released a tool to download every photo from 1996 through to 2011, totalling some 7,604 images, or around 15,208 breasts.

This new downloader began its life as a way to circumvent the security measures that Sports Illustrated introduced to prevent the 2011 Perl script downloader from working. SI.com obfuscated the URLs of its photos, breaking the 'dumb' Perl script which just iterated through sequentially-numbered images. The new downloader is more intelligent -- though the developer doesn't say exactly how the new downloader does things -- which will make it harder for for Sports Illustrated to block.

You will need a Windows machine to run the new downloader (or you could virtualize Windows under Linux or Mac), and the .NET 4 Framework (which you probably already have installed).

The downloader will take a while, especially if you want to download every photo from 1996 through to 2011 -- 4 hours, by the developer's reckoning. Having said that, it only took us about 20 minutes to download the 1,400 photos from 2011, so it probably depends on your Internet connection.

Note: the downloader kind of 'locks up' while it's running -- you can still see it downloading, but you can't minimize it or close it. Also, it 'counts up' as it discovers valid photo URLs before it starts downloading, so don't be alarmed if it takes a while for pretty photos to start appearing. If, for some reason, you want to stop the downloader, you have to kill the process via Task Manager.

How would you change OnLive's MicroConsole game system?

The concept of a streaming console has been around for ages, and while Phantom Entertainment never could quite pull it off, the folks at OnLive seem to be onto something. 'Course, only time will tell if that "something" is a legitimate enough business to make sustainable, but at least it has moved well beyond the point of vaporware. Now that the MicroConsole has been raiding living rooms for a few months, we're curious to know your thoughts on things. Have you been able to try one out? Are you still reverting back to your conventional consoles? Are you pleased with OnLive's performance given your ho hum cable connection? Would you have inked deals with a few more game publishers before pushing it out? Go on and get really real down in comments below -- given the small size of the company, there's a better-than-average chance it'll be listening to what you have to say.

Volvo C30 Electric test drive (video)

We've been covering the Volvo C30 Electric pretty closely because, well, let's face it: it's one of the few genuinely good looking electric cars in the pipeline. Sure, the Focus Electric looks fine, despite the excessive dental gear, and Tesla's products are certainly saucy, but for every Roadster in the world there are a couple-dozen Leafs and Prii putting their owners to sleep.

The C30 Electric, however, looks almost exactly like the C30 non-electric, which is a good thing, and it drives more or less like one too. About four months after we first saw the thing Volvo finally tossed us the keys, in the process taking us on a tour of Indianapolis-based Ener1, source of the battery packs that make the thing move. Yes, it's a funky little Swedish car with a big 'ol American battery pack. Read on for our impressions.

iRig Mic review

There's no shortage of ways to get sound into your iOS device, but one thing has been missing from the field up to this point: a handheld accessory to help you hone your Sammy Hagar (or Anderson Cooper) impression while you're FaceTiming with Gramps. The iRig vocal mic fills that gap, and the included Vocalive app does its part to help you rap over your favorite beat, add sick and twisted FX to your vox, and share your jams with your file-sharing friends. But is the iRig a Napster-level entry into the iMic field? Is it more of an eDonkey, or just kind of a KaZaA? Read on for our impressions of the SM58-feeling cardioid.

Burrito Bison is a simple game for gummy bear lovers

burritobison
Burrito Bison is a pretty simple game, but if you're into gummy bears you might find it addictive.

As you may have guessed from the name, you're a bison (not a burrito, though). In the course of your day-to-day grocery shopping, you're abducted into a bag of gummy bears, and must now fend for yourself.

At the beginning of each round you launch yourself onto the marching gummy (gummi?) bears, while you're being watched by a huge crowd of even more gummy bears. Your goal is to keep bouncing on the bears and earn more and more money while you do it. Every time you hit a gummy bear, you lose some momentum. If you hit the floor, you basically lose all of it.

But don't give up just yet! You have an emergency thrust which you can use to gain some momentum and keep bouncing on those bears. This extra thrust gets refilled as you hit more bears.

There are also special gummy bears that give you extra thrust or extra money. The money comes in handy at the end of each round, when you can shop for cool stuff to make your bison even more effective against those gummy bears.

It's a fun and colorful game that kept my interest for quite some time, and almost sent me running to the closest store to get some gummy bears!

Facebook Lets Users Put Questions in a Bottle

What is the temperature of the sun? What is free will? Who's in charge here, anyway? These questions and more -- any question one could possibly imagine, really -- are what Facebook's Questions feature is for. The social network updated Questions Thursday, throwing the general inquiry forum open to the public. Anyone can opt in, Facebook spokesperson Meredith Chin told TechNewsWorld.

Charge Anywhere update turns Nexus S into full-on mobile payment terminal

Processing mobile payments via an external dongle? That's so early 2011. Charge Anywhere has a less troublesome idea, and if you're the lucky owner of a Google Nexus S, you could soon be accepting cold, hard virtual cash via NFC. For those already familiar with the space, you'll know that this very company already has applications out for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices, but all of those obviously require a credit card swiping mechanism to be connected. According to CNET, the latest version will include support for the NFC module embedded within the Nexus S, enabling it to be a full-on mobile payment terminal with no additional hardware required. Both MasterCard PayPass and Visa Blink payments could be ingested, but don't go searching for the update in the Android Market; the company's done with the new build, but it won't be let loose to the public until it's ran past larger customers first. We don't get the impression that the NFC-compatible version will run any more than the $9.99 per month, but it's obviously a wait-and-see affair for now.

Opera 11.10 beta released, adds plug-in installer, improved standards support

opera 11.10 beta
Yesterday we let you know that the Opera 11.10 beta would be available for download today -- and here it is. As we've shown you before, the betacuda Barracuda beta includes a much-improved Speed Dial page. There's also an improved Presto 2.8 rendering engine, support for Google's WebP image file format, improved CSS support, and an enhanced mail client. Opera 11.10 also offers improved feature tips, which you may see appear from time to time -- they're subtle, and easy enough to hide.
One other change you'll notice is that Opera 11.10 will now offer to install the Flash Player plug-in if it's missing from your system and required by a page. Firefox and Internet Explorer have offered this functionality for some time, and it's nice to see Opera finally fold it in.

Opera 11.10 beta is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. If you don't want to overwrite your existing Opera data, just make sure you choose the USB option during installation.

Turing machine built from wood, scrap metal and magnets, 'geek' achievement unlocked (video)

We take it for granted nowadays that thumbnail-sized silicon chips can crunch through the most complex of calculations, but early last century, mathematical tasks were still being carried out by humans. It was around that time that one Alan Turing, Enigma code breaker and general computer science pioneer, came up with what was essentially a thought experiment, a mechanical machine capable of simulating and solving algorithms just like a grown-up CPU. Well, you know where this is going by now, one British software engineer decided to build just such a device, out of old bits and bobs he had lying around his geek lair, producing a working model that was recently shown off at the Maker Faire UK in Newcastle. The only downer, as he points out, is that it'd take "months to add two numbers together," but all good things start off humbly. Video after the break.
